Who we are
Cat-A-Logue is an app provided by Project Horizon. This policy explains how we handle information when you use the app, its community service and this website. Contact us at support@projecthorizon.xyz with privacy questions.
Information we handle
- Community profile: an automatically generated profile identifier and access token, your chosen display name and, if you choose one, a profile picture.
- Cat photos: photos you take when catching a cat are sent to our server to check for a cat and create a cut-out. When you save a catch, its cut-out images, cat name, coat or breed and any general area you enter are stored with your post.
- Approximate location: when you choose to add a catch, the app requests location permission. The location used for the public map is rounded to 0.01 degrees, roughly around one kilometre in latitude. All new catches are shared on the feed and map.
- Community activity: cats you collect, votes, reports and information needed to manage or moderate posts.
- Technical information: network addresses such as your IP address and ordinary server request logs may be processed to operate and protect the service.
- On your device: your local cat collection, photos, settings and account access information are stored on the device. If you export a backup, you choose where to keep it.
You can choose whether to grant camera and location permissions in your device settings. A camera photo and an approximate location are needed to add a new catch.
How we use information
We use it to run your profile and collection, check cat photos, remove backgrounds, show public posts and map pins, provide voting and other community features, respond to reports, support users and help protect the service.
Depending on the activity, our legal bases may include providing the service you request, consent where requested for device permissions or photo processing, and our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and moderating abuse. You can withdraw device permissions in your settings, although features that need them will no longer work.
How long we keep information
We keep your profile and public posts while they are needed to provide the service, until you delete them or request deletion, or until the service is discontinued. Security and moderation records are kept for as long as reasonably needed for those purposes. Copies in server backups and logs may remain until they are rotated or no longer needed for recovery, security or legal obligations. Device backups you export are under your control.
Delete your account and data
Request deletion: email support@projecthorizon.xyz with the subject “Cat-A-Logue account deletion request”. You do not need to reinstall the app to ask.
If you still have access to the app, open your profile, choose Settings, then Delete community profile. This deletes the community profile and its public posts from the live service. Your local collection stays on your device until you remove it.
If you email us, include your public username and any public cat post details that can help identify your profile. Usernames are not unique, so we may ask for more information to avoid deleting someone else’s account. Do not send your access token. We will explain any data that needs to be retained for security or legal reasons and how backup retention applies.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or a copy of your information, and to object to certain processing. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it. These rights can have limitations. Contact us to make a request.
If you are in the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
This website and optional analytics
With your permission, we use a first-party random browser identifier to count the first time your browser clicks a Google Play button on this website. We record the time and an approximate country inferred from your IP address. The analytics database stores a protected identifier, country and time; it does not store your IP address. The count measures clicks, not confirmed downloads. Country results can be inaccurate, especially with VPNs.
The preference and identifier are stored in your browser. If you decline, optional click analytics are not used. You can change your choice using ; declining after previously agreeing requests deletion of your recorded click. You can also contact us about your data. We retain these records for the analytics purpose until you withdraw consent or ask us to delete them.
We use a local IP-to-country database: IP Geolocation by DB-IP. Your IP is not sent to DB-IP when a click is counted. Hosting providers may record ordinary server logs, including IP addresses and request times, for operation and security. The example app screens shown here are illustrative.
